Stephanie created SGK Fine Arts LLC in 2015 to share the restorative power of art.  She began exhibiting art publicly in November 2016.  Exhibit highlights include a solo show at the Southern Vermont Arts Center August 31, 2019 - October 6, 2019 at the Southern Vermont Arts center, delivering an alumna speech at the 2019 annual Mercy Connection's luncheon, a featured article in the Vermont Art Guide volume 7, and the cover artwork for the 2018 Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival program.

Stephanie is in love with Monotype Printmaking and Painting.  She nurtures it like a mature romance.  The mutual discovery is appreciative, intense, and flowing.  She combines etching ink (sticky like hot marshmallow) and oil paint (greasy like buttery fingers) using her fingers, brayers, pallet knives, rags, squeegees, and found objects.  The materials allow her to create subtle, powerful, atmospheric images and to express complex emotional themes.

Stephanie loves life and her family-by-choice. She lives with her spouse, a geriatric cat named Slinky, and a variety of homestead critters in northwestern, Vermont.  She enjoys wearing leopard print and All-Stars and  lets a mop of wavy brown and grey hair do whatever it wants.

Stephanie experienced emotional, physical, and sexual trauma as a child and adolescent and consequently manages the symptoms of Complex PTSD on a daily basis. Trauma can change the brain’s structure and disrupt stress-hormone balances, preventing the integration and processing of memory.   For those like Stephanie, traumatic memories remain in the nonverbal region of the brain where they persist as current threats.  Without intervention, patience, and hard work, many sufferers continue to relive their trauma in both overt and subtle ways.

Artwork gives substance to emotions that are often difficult to
express through spoken or written language.  It is a powerful tool for release and growth. Stephanie is honored to support those learning how to thrive and experiment with radical self expression,  acceptance, and compassion.
